Introduction to Cosmetology
Prerequisite: None
Description: This course is available to students in grade 10-12. (grade 9 students can select Cosmetology 9)
Intermediate Cosmetology
Prerequisite: Introduction to Cosmetology
This course is available to students in grade 10-12 who have completed Cosmetology 9 OR Introduction to Cosmetology, and are interested in:
Advanced Cosmetology (In-salon work experience)
Prerequisite: Intermediate Cosmetology
This course is available only to grade 11 and 12 students that have successfully completed Intermediate Cosmetology.
Introduction to Cosmetology
Prerequisite: None
Description: This course is available to students in grade 10-12. (grade 9 students can select Cosmetology 9)
- Learning skills such as hairstyling techniques (braiding, updo, curling iron, blow-dry, etc.), shampooing and scalp massage, basic haircutting, skin care, and nail art
- Exploring topics such as career opportunities, salon sanitation, personal health and nutrition, employment skills, etc.
- Students must be comfortable practicing skills on themselves and other people.
Intermediate Cosmetology
Prerequisite: Introduction to Cosmetology
This course is available to students in grade 10-12 who have completed Cosmetology 9 OR Introduction to Cosmetology, and are interested in:
- Building on the skills and knowledge learned in Introduction to Cosmetology
- Learning new haircutting techniques, as well as basic hair coloring methods
- exploring skin care and makeup application
- Exploring career opportunities and salon business fundamentals
- Students must be comfortable practicing skills on themselves and other people.
Advanced Cosmetology (In-salon work experience)
Prerequisite: Intermediate Cosmetology
This course is available only to grade 11 and 12 students that have successfully completed Intermediate Cosmetology.
- Refines the skills and knowledge gained in Intermediate Cosmetology
- Expands students’ styling, haircutting, and hair coloring techniques
- Includes career preparation, in-salon work experience at Head of the Class Salon (at Belmont)
- Offers opportunity for students to move directly into the Industry Train Authority (ITA) apprenticeship and Red Seal Hairstylist program
